Netflix currently has a new South Korean survival thriller series called Squid Game. It stars Lee Jung-Jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-Joon, Jung Ho-Yeon, O Yeong-Su, Heo Sung-Tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-young and was written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. On September 17th 2021, Netflix released the series in the United States and around the world.
If the story’s plot is explained, each of the 456 contestants in the show is deeply in debt, and they compete by playing a series of children’s games with deadly consequences if they lose to win a 45.6 billion yen prize. Netflix’s hugely popular series Squid Game has surpassed all previous titles in terms of viewership since its debut, the company announced Monday. According to a tweet from the company’s Netflix Geeked account on Monday, Hwang Dong-survival Hyuk’s thriller reached 111 million global accounts in its first 17 days on Netflix. It also said that Squid Game is the first Netflix series to garner more than 100 million views in its first 28 days on the service. According to the company, Netflix typically evaluates a title’s performance on its platform over 28 days.
A representative from the company confirmed that the figures it provided were based on the number of accounts that watched the series for at least two minutes, which is its standard metric for ranking titles (though it has used additional measurements to track the success of titles in the past). According to a company spokesperson since its launch on Netflix on September 17th, Squid Game has risen to the top of the streaming service’s top 10 list in 94 countries. This includes every country in the world where the service offers a top 10 list. Additionally, the show has held the number one spot in the United States for a record-breaking 21 days, breaking the previous record for a non-English language title. Squid Game had previously been announced as the first Korean game to reach the top of the United States of America charts.
