The White Label Delivery Service of Walmart

Walmart Inc. is an American multinational retail corporation that has a chain of hypermarkets, discount department stores, and grocery stores from the United States, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. This year, they are planning to initiate a last-mile delivery service where they offer their delivery service and the logistics to other companies as well.

This novel delivery service is named as GoLocal by Walmart and they are expecting to start this service as a white label delivery where they offer the service to all types of businesses. What is meant by a white label delivery? White label refers to a product or service that is purchased by a reseller who rebrands the product or service to give the impression that the new owner created it. So, the company that is having the delivery service from Walmart can rebrand the delivery service as if they are providing it. As Walmart implies, they have already found potential clients to carry out this service and have established agreements with them. Walmart will price this service as per the service expected by the client and based on what the clients are planning to offer to their clients. If you have a look at the GoLocal website, there are some information about this novel service. This service works as follows. When a customer order something from a business, that business will contact Walmart and Walmart GoLocal will dispatch a delivery rider. The rider will deliver the order and get the feedback from the client which is to be conveyed to the relevant business that got the service of Walmart GoLocal. This concept is not a fresh idea as Postmates and DoorDash are also providing this white label service.

Basically, Walmart will fill the driver pool of this white-label service from the contract workers from its Spark delivery network, which was launched in 2018. Other than that, Walmart is also planning to use drones and autonomous cars for the delivery process.  Walmart’s investment in DroneUp’s 10,000 Federal Aviation Administration proves that pilots will be essentially used for the drone deliveries of Walmart white label delivery service. They have also invested in Cruise’s self-driving electric cars which hints that they will be using self-driving cars too for this delivery service. It is true that this concept of white label deliveries is not a fresh idea for the world, but Walmart has introduced a new idea by changing the nature of the driver pool of this delivery service. Because none of the other white-label delivery services will use drones or self-driven electric cars for the delivery process.
