The Newest Feature of Twitter

Twitter is an American microblogging and social networking service on which users are allowed to post and interact with messages known as “tweets”. Registered users can post, like, and retweet tweets, but unregistered users can only read those that are publicly available. Recently, the company announced that they are going to launch a new feature named “Safety Mode” for Twitter.

This feature will automatically block the accounts which send harmful, abusive, and unnecessary tweets to you. This new feature will be launched in beta mode. Launching your product in beta means you know that you are releasing an unfinished product with known bugs and unknown bugs to users. This is very useful in identifying bugs, the places that need improvements, etc. This will also help in launching a more successful and user-friendly final product. So, the Beat version of this new feature of Twitter will be launched with a small feedback group of accounts on iOS, Android, and Twitter.com with English-language settings enabled. The company has already planned to expand the group of testers in the future. Users can turn this feature on by using Twitter settings. Then the system will trace the negative engagement by assessing both the content of the Tweet and the relationship between the one who sends the Tweet (author) and the one who receives it. However, Twitter assures that the autoblocking feature will not be affecting the accounts which are followed or interacted with frequently by Twitter users. This new technology will consider the nature of the existing relationship before blocking the accounts. This autoblocking happens temporarily and after seven days you can unblock it. The company further explains that users can undo autoblocks that are made mistakenly by the system.

Twitter expects to reduce abuse on social media platforms. Having that goal, they have introduced this feature for their users. This feature was first announced in February, but then nobody knew when this feature will come out. This launching of the new feature could be cited as the latest attempt of Twitter to reduce abuse. Other recent features of Twitter include hiding replies, letting people limit who can reply to their posts, and showing a warning before you tweet a potentially harmful reply. Regardless of the new features introduced, it is frequently observed that abusing is exponentially increasing in the Twitter platform, which should be avoided. This new feature will also contribute to reducing abuse on Twitter.

That’s all readers! Stay tuned for more interesting updates.
