According to an SEO company study, Google has recently shown that its AI-generated search results are less often.
The data, collected by BrightEdge and reported by Search Engine Land, shows that AI Overviews appeared in 11% of searches on June 1st but only 7% on June 30th. BrightEdge’s data also indicates that AI Overviews cite Reddit and Quora much less than before.
Approximately 99,000 search queries are processed by Google every second, resulting in about 8.5 billion searches daily and roughly 2 trillion global searches annually. The study has got the attention of the tech society.
Sometimes, Google has weird results when users search for something. In response, Google said it limited the use of user-generated content and improved tools to detect nonsense queries that shouldn’t get AI Overviews.
Google spokesperson Ashley Thompson has replied to this and criticized the study. He also says BrightEdge’s study appears to mix users who have opted in to “AI Overviews & More” as part of Google’s experimental Search Labs features with those who haven’t. In a previous interview, CEO Sundar Pichai also said that people responded very positively to AI Overviews.
We designed AI Overviews to appear for queries where they’re helpful and provide value beyond existing features on the results page. They continue to show for many searches. Ashley Thompson says. “As we’ve shared, we’re continuing to refine when and how we show AI Overviews so they’re as useful as possible, including several recent technical updates to improve response quality.”
However, AI Overviews are an essential initiative for Google. As a Google user, what do you think about this study’s findings?
