Quincy Hall’s Stunning Comeback in the 400 Meters

Quincy Hall made a stunning comeback in the Olympic 400 meters, surging from behind to overtake three competitors and win the gold medal.

Quincy Hall, 26, is an American track and field athlete who competes in the 400-meter and 400-meter hurdles. He could add another gold medal to the U.S.A. medal list on Wednesday night.

Hall, buried in fourth place as the runners rounded the last bend, outran the runner on his outside, then two more to the inside to cross the line in 43.40 seconds, the fourth-fastest time ever, dropped to the track to do snow angels to celebrate.

“I’ve got determination,” he said. “That’s what got me to that line. A lot of hurt, a lot of pain.”

He beat Matthew Hudson-Smith of Britain by .04 seconds. Muzala Samukonga of Zambia got third place.

Hall is the first American to win the gold in the one-lap race since LaShawn Merritt did so in 2008. An evening earlier, in the men’s 1,500 meters, American Cole Hocker overcame the favorites by coming from a considerable disadvantage.

The U.S.A. is in first place in the Paris Olympics with 27 gold medals. China and Australia are currently in second and third place. Olympics 2024 will take place from Jul. 24 to Aug. 11, 2024, in France. Shortly after the final events are held, the Olympics will officially close, with the Closing Ceremony starting at 2 p.m. E.T. on Aug. 11. People are discussing special things about the Paris Olympics on social media.
